More and more manufacturers are sidelining racing bikes with rim brakes. Is it still worth investing in a bike with rim brakes? The TOUR test with seven bikes between 3,500 and 8,850 euros gives a clear answer

The road bike industry is unanimous: disc brakes are the future of road bikes. More and more suppliers are only offering road bikes with rim brakes in the price range of €1,000 and below - if at all. However, not all manufacturers have yet made a clear decision on the issue of brakes.

All seven models with rim brakes tested in TOUR 3/2020:

  • Basso Diamante SV
  • Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 eTap
  • Giant Propel Advanced Pro
  • Müsing Aviator
  • Rose X-Lite Six Dura-Ace Di2
  • Stevens Comet Ultegra Di2
  • StorckAernario.2 Comp

Brands such as Rose and Basso have ruled out an imminent end to rim brakes, at least for the time being. Others such as Canyon, Giant, Müsing, Storck and Stevens still have attractive models with rim brakes in their programme, at least for the time being. Our test identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the respective bikes and lists which brands still offer road bikes with rim brakes.

All individual results in the overview with test scores for all bikes are available now in TOUR 3/2020 or below in the pdf download for 1.99 euros.
