For riders who like this riding position, it can be the decisive purchase criterion, as such a radical design is rare in this price range. Otherwise, the R1 offers a decent basis: the frame is simple and straightforward in design, all tubes are round and all cables are routed externally. Unfortunately, the thick aluminium seat post offers little suspension comfort, and the hard padded saddle is also not for long distances. At least the durable 25-millimetre tyres absorb some of the harshness. Otherwise, the R1 scores well in all disciplines. As with all mail order bikes, the direct sales offer comparatively good equipment for the total price: a complete Shimano 105 groupset including colour-coordinated Aksium wheels and functional add-on parts that work well and promise a long service life.
CONCLUSION Straightforward aluminium frame with distinctly sporty geometry. Good equipment, relatively light, but not very comfortable
