The frame has been carefully renovated, with the kink in the down tube and the seat tube attached far forward to the bottom bracket continuing to characterise the look. The thru axle of the brake stiffens the fork, which enables more precise steering and braking manoeuvres. With the 180-millimetre brake disc on the front wheel, the braking performance is a revelation. There is also a lot of riding fun for the money, and on the test bike with the simpler of two equipment variants we liked the fast top tyres and the comfortable handlebars. Lighter wheels would make the Alpine Hawk even more agile. The price for the package is fair, but not a bargain.
CONCLUSION Distinctive frame set, light comfort geometry, fast tyres and powerful brakes, simple wheels
