Storck Scenario Pro

Which current aluminium frame deserves the classic seal more than the "Scenario Pro"? Some key data: built almost unchanged since 1996, first road bike frame with a 1-1/8 inch headset, first road bike frame with a 300 gram carbon fork. The fact that Markus Storck became a bicycle manufacturer is partly due to the fact that he lost the distribution of the US brand Klein in 1995. Their oversized "Quantum Pro" aluminium frame was the benchmark in road bike construction at the time.

Because Storck was convinced by the concept of the Quantum Pro, his first self-developed racing bike frame was based on its most important design feature: the large-volume tubes, which made the frame both stiff and light. However, the Scenario Pro was not a small copy. The super-light Stiletto carbon fork set standards, as did the 1-1/8 inch steerer tube size, which was unusual for road bikes at the time and later became the industry standard. At 1,400 grams in size 57, the oldie still holds its own against current aluminium frames, and the stiffness values are beyond reproach anyway. The main criticism is still the same: the extreme vertical stiffness. Changing this would mean having to change the design with a horizontal top tube and oversized seat post. Storck's "Evergreen" is the last representative of the pure oversized doctrine. With Campa's classy "Super Record" groupset, the test bike weighs only 6.8 kilos. When Storck presented a version of the bike tuned to 6.5 kilos at the Eurobike in 1998, it was a sensation. Today, such a weight is feasible with standard components.
