To achieve the breathtaking weight of 5.1 kilos, the Hamburg-based company reached deep into the tuning box. Brakes, bottom bracket and fork come from the German carbon specialist THM, whose expertise in lightweight construction enjoys a worldwide reputation. And rightly so, because while the brakes and cranks are functionally on a par with mass-produced parts, the fork is simply sensational. Never before has there been a fork that has been awarded an A for comfort and lateral stiffness - and at only 283 grams!
In some places, however, the limits of lightweight construction become apparent. The weight-optimised Cane Creek headset, which doesn't need balls at the top, requires a lot of patience to adjust. The feeling of exhilaration you get when you accelerate uphill with the ultra-light Xentis wheels disappears as soon as you get over the crest. Especially in fast corners, you first have to get used to the fact that the stabilising gyroscopic forces are much lower than with heavier wheels. In the configuration shown, the Comet is therefore
predestined for mountain time trials outside the UCI statutes. Stiffer wheels would significantly increase the range of use.
