Simplon Grid CX-1
The stiff frame offers many possibilities. The brakes are the weak point.

The all-rounder in this test field can be equipped with mudguards and pannier rack thanks to threaded eyelets on the fork and rear triangle. In terms of geometry, the bike is nevertheless a flawless crosser that sweeps through the terrain thanks to its moderate steering angle. Overall, the riding impression is good - also thanks to Schwalbe's new "Rocket Ron" cross tyre, which offers a lot of grip on loose surfaces. Shimano's 105 groupset performs reliably.

The weak point of the bike: the cantilever brakes, which offer the worst braking performance in the test in dry conditions and are also not convincing in the wet. The fork also vibrates relatively strongly. When the test was already underway, Simplon informed us that the "Grid CX-1" will be fitted with the same brake cable counter mount as Stevens. This could improve the braking performance somewhat.
