Scott Foil Team Issue 2012
The Foil's unusual tube profiles, reminiscent of triangles with rounded corners, offer clear advantages in the fight against the wind.

In terms of aerodynamics, the frame is much closer to an aero specialist like the Specialized Venge than a round tube frame à la Canyon (see Aerotest in TOUR 2/2012->). This is precisely the purpose of the model: to be light enough to fulfil the UCI limit of 6.8 kilos, yet stable and comfortable enough not to hurt racers. The test bike is one of the first models delivered with series quality; this also explains the differences in marks compared to the test of the prototype in TOUR 2/2012. The frame weight is standardised at around 1,000 grams, the riding stability reaches the highest level. However, it is not enough for a top position in the combined laboratory and wind tunnel test. For that, Scott would have to do a bit of comfort tuning. The Foil already fulfils the goal of designing a bike that offers superior aerodynamics and keeps the necessary compromises in the other suspension characteristics within tolerable limits.

Conclusion: Fully competitive aero all-purpose weapon. Further weight reduction and comfort improvement possible ...

*The overall grade includes: the aerodynamics grade with 20 per cent and the grade for the frame set with 80 per cent. The grades are calculated up to the final grade with all decimal places; however, for the sake of clarity, all grades are given with rounded decimal places.
**Weighed weights.
***Manufacturer's specification, test size bold.
****Stack/Reach: projected vertical/horizontal measurement from the centre of the bottom bracket to the upper edge of the headset cap; STR (Stack to Reach): Values 1.45-1.55 mean a sporty riding position, below that race-like, above that comfortable.
