At mail order company Rose, too, carbon has now moved to first place in the favour of road bike buyers. The predicted bestseller Xeon CRS is doing well in almost all criteria, with only the comfort of the fork still offering room for improvement among the competition.

The frame is equipped with press-fit bearings, a tapered steerer tube and Di2 preparation, and all cables run invisibly in the frame. Typical of a mail-order bike is the excellent equipment for the price: Ksyrium Elite wheels from Mavic and Ritchey's WCS components are not a matter of course in this price range, and the low weight of less than 7 kilos with a complete Ultegra is also rather rare. The shiny, lacquer-like surfaces on the saddle and handlebars provide a pleasant accent despite the use of black. Not every tester got on well with the slippery contact points - but Rose offers many alternatives in its own configurator.

* The frame set accounts for 40 per cent of the overall score and the features for 60 per cent. These ratings include individual grades, which we have only printed in part for reasons of space. The grades are calculated up to the final grade with all decimal places; however, for the sake of clarity, all grades are given with rounded decimal places.
** Tested frame size greased.
*** Stack/reach: projected vertical/horizontal measurement from the centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the headset; STR (stack to reach): Values between 1.45 and 1.55 indicate a sporty seating position, values below that are race-like, above that comfortable.
**** Adjusted weight for frame size 57 cm and fork steerer length 225 mm.
