Although the Pro-SL frame has now been in the range for five years with slight modernisations, the classic is by no means a bad buy - technically, the aluminium model remains easily competitive. In order to soften the sporty riding position, an upward-facing stem and two centimetres of spacers were fitted on the basis of detailed advice - the look is a matter of taste, but it works. However, the Bocholt-based company's strongest argument is the brand new Ultegra groupset with an eleven-speed drivetrain, model year 2014 mind you, which Rose is the only company able to supply - and which, together with Mavic's Ksyrium Elite wheels, is reflected in the best equipment rating - and that for 100 euros less than our target price. Apart from the rather long delivery time, the test victory over S-Tec's Giant is close, but well deserved.
