If you want to buy a new road bike this year, it's worth taking a closer look at these offers: 17 brand new models in the attractive price range of around €1,500. Attractive above all because you won't find bikes with a better price-performance ratio anywhere else. The best bikes in this test ride almost like professional racers; at best they are a little heavier. A variety like in this test field would have been unthinkable at this price level five or six years ago. Aluminium is still the dominant frame material. However, six candidates with carbon frames show that the composite material is also becoming increasingly popular in this price category. There is also no lack of choice when it comes to shifting and braking technology. Market leader Shimano has long since ceased to dominate the field alone. As many as five of the 17 bike manufacturers rely on shifting and braking technology from Shimano's competitors SRAM and Campagnolo.
