After three forks were broken by an amateur team during racing, Merida reacted and launched a recall. The carbon Merida Scultura CF2 forks from the 2017 model year are affected and were installed in the following models:
Scultura 5000
Scultura Disc 6000
Scultura Disc 5000
Scultura Disc 500
The corresponding 2018 models are not affected.
"The forks with carbon steerer tubes fitted to the bikes mentioned do not fulfil the load requirements. In intensive use, cracks may develop underneath the stem clamp or under the spacers and may even break completely," the company states in its press release. Customers are asked not to use the bikes with immediate effect.
The defective forks extend to two specific model numbers and a production code. These can be read on a sticker with a QR code on the steerer tube. The sticker becomes visible when the stem is loosened and the fork is pulled downwards out of the head tube of the frame.
