The latest Tarmac is said to be lighter, more comfortable and aerodynamically better than its predecessor.
At 733 grams in size 56, it would be by far the lightest in the Specialized range. The aerodynamics developers promise a whopping 45 seconds time gain over 40 kilometres. This is thanks to the revised design with low-set seat stays, aerodynamically shaped fork and aerodynamically optimised seat tube with D-profile and correspondingly shaped seat post. In combination with a special fibre coating on the seat post, the new rear triangle is intended to make the frame significantly more compliant vertically than its predecessor.
Specialized has merged the Tarmac, which was previously only aimed at male riders, and the Amira women's model into one.
According to Specialized, this decision to buck the industry trend is based on the evaluation of more than 40,000 data records from the fitting specialist Retül, which was taken over four years ago. The corresponding women's versions differ primarily in terms of different saddles and narrower handlebars. The new Tarmac, which is available in seven sizes, will be offered in a special Ultralight version limited to 500 units at the start of sales.
Alongside the new Tarmac, the US brand is presenting the second, completely revised generation of the gravel trailblazer Diverge. The Future Shock suspension stem, which was introduced on the Roubaix endurance model a year ago, will provide more comfort on the handlebars in future. The bike has also been updated with flat-mount mounts for disc brakes and 12-millimetre thru-axles as well as more space for wider tyres.
