Different in details to the current S5 aero road bike: At the Tour of Valencia, riders from Jumbo-Visma rode a Cervélo S5 that looks suspiciously like the successor model.

The Cervélo S5 is one of the fastest Aero racing bikes in the world. Now the Canadians are preparing a model change. The bike was used for the first time by the Jumbo-Visma team at the Tour of Valencia at the beginning of February.

The five-day stage race on the Spanish Mediterranean coast ended in disappointment for Jumbo-Visma. After two positive corona cases, the Dutch team had to pull out early. However, the top team also caused a stir on the road - with a new aero racing bike. A Cervélo spokesperson confirmed this to TOUR when asked.

Small details reveal the S5 successor

The most striking new features of the S5 successor are of an aerodynamic nature. The head tube in particular is much flatter. Cervélo, like Simplon with the Pride II or Orbea with the Orca Aero to the new UCI regulations. The junction of the top tube and seat tube is also more prominent than on the current S5 model.

At 205 watts, the current S5 Red eTap Disc is one of the fastest production road bikes that TOUR has ever tested in the wind tunnel. "The integration of the frame with the fork positioned in front of the head tube and the two-armed stem is exemplary," we rated the aero racer in TOUR 8/2020: "The streamlined shape is particularly effective from the front view."

As Jumbo-Visma will also be riding the S5 successor in black and yellow team livery at the Tour of the Algarve (until 20 February), it is unlikely to be a prototype. Cervélo did not want to comment on the official presentation of a new S5.
