Maximum aerodynamics and extreme lightness - until now, these two goals were mutually exclusive. With the new Venge, Specialized claims to have solved the seemingly incompatible demands of aerodynamics and weight saving. The bike, which is only available with disc brakes, is equipped with a power meter as standard.
The frame alone is said to save 240 grams in weight compared to the Venge Vias, the previous aero-top model, thanks to the reduced surface area. Overall, the S-Works Venge Disc equipped with the electric Dura-Ace Di2 in frame size 56 should only weigh 7.1 kilograms - that is lighter than the Tarmac SL5, which is primarily designed for mountainous routes.
The tube shapes of the new Venge should provide an even greater aero advantage, especially in crosswinds. The Roval wheels and the integration of the cables also support the streamlined nature of the bike. The extremely stiff Aerofly II cockpit, which has a perforated surface structure, stands out as a new feature. Thanks to the integrated bar tape stops, the handlebar tape only extends to just behind the brake levers.
However, Specialized has dispensed with the eye-catching colour scheme of the Venge Vias for the new high-end racer: Apart from strictly limited special editions, the new Venge will initially only be available in "Satin Black / Holographic Foil".
