Since the start of the Vuelta in 2011, the Australian has ridden 65,098.4 kilometres in the three grand tours alone. For the 2018 Giro d'Italia, the "Iron Man" is now riding a special edition of the Ridley Helium SLX.
The extreme riding position, which is almost reminiscent of time trial bikes, is particularly striking. Despite his impressive height of 1.86 metres, Hansen rides a size M frame. This means that the bike probably has the largest saddle/handlebar rake in the entire Giro rider field. The seat post has a correspondingly large extension and is also twisted 180° in the frame. As a result, it is cranked forwards and, together with the saddle mounted very far forwards, gives Hansen an extreme racing position. The stem, which slopes steeply forwards by 20 degrees and is 140 millimetres long, is also unusual and places the handlebars extremely low. Striking: At 38 centimetres, the handlebars are very narrow for Hansen's relatively beefy physique. All the fine-tuning has one sole aim: better aerodynamics.
