If you believe the French manufacturer Look, then the new 796 Monoblade is the fastest time trial bike on the market. The ultra-slim bullet is definitely visually spectacular.

Because the tube profiles are no wider than 25 millimetres at any point, the 796 Monoblade seems to cut through the wind like a knife. The high degree of system integration guarantees an extremely tidy look. The front brake has been integrated into the fork blades and is virtually invisible. The crankset is a further developed, aerodynamically optimised version of the well-known ZED crank from Look. The crank and shaft of the ZED3 consist of a one-piece, extremely stiff carbon construction. The ZED3 cranks are available in three lengths, each of which covers three crank lengths with the help of interchangeable inserts in the pedal eyes. In total, crank lengths of between 155 and 180 millimetres can be achieved with the ZED3 in this way. The adjustability of the handlebars, which offer a wide range of adjustment options in all planes, was a high priority for Look during development. The stem is connected to the fork via a Hirth coupling, which is also familiar from the separable axles of Campagnolo bottom brackets. The steerer tube itself is extremely thin at just 19 millimetres and has an internal steel reinforcement.

The sales launch of the 796 Monoblade is planned for January 2016. All four complete bike variants are equipped with electric Di2 gears from Shimano. However, the frame can also be fitted with mechanical shifting systems. Prices start at €9,000 with Ultegra Di2 and Cosmic Elite wheels from Mavic.
