Problems have been discovered with the fork on Cannondale's best-selling cyclocross bike. "The fork can break, causing the wheel to come off the bike while riding. This poses a fall hazard to the rider," the American bike manufacturer announced in a press release. Cannondale emphasised that the recall only applies to disc models and only for model years 2013 to 2016. Riders of an affected bike can have the fork replaced free of charge at a Cannondale dealer.
According to the manufacturer, the affected wheels can be recognised as follows:
1. the bike has a large "CAADXThe bicycle must have the lettering "-" on the top tube or elsewhere on the frame.
2. the bicycle is fitted with Disc brakes equipped.
3. on the inside of the fork leg there is a large "ULTRAX" lettering.
4. the line to the front disc brake is routed completely along the outside of the fork blade.
Note: Later models not affected by this recall have internal cables through the fork blade to the front disc brake.
Consumers who are still unsure if their bike is affected by this recall are encouraged to take it to a Cannondale dealer. The nearest Cannondale dealer can be located via the website www.cannondale.com can be found. Users of the bike affected by the recall are requested not to ride this bike again. A Cannondale dealer should be contacted immediately to carry out a free repair. The dealer will replace the bicycle fork free of charge with a replacement fork made of full carbon fibre.
