It's done: The 6th Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp 2008 is over. The 1,100 participants have arrived in Bibione on the Adriatic. The riders have 859.04 kilometres and 16,849 metres of altitude in their legs.
The 155-kilometre stage started at nine o'clock in Feltre. The route always led slightly downhill to the vicinity of Valdobbiadene and onwards through the northern Italian plain. At times, the leading group had an average speed of 55 kilometres per hour. There were individual breakaway attempts. However, the two leading teams Speikboden-Bergrestaurant (Werner Weiss/Andreas Laner/544 ) and Team Südtirol Hochmut (Philip Götsch/Manuel Hillerbrand/603) remained a few minutes behind in the 150-strong chasing pack.
The men's winner of the day was Team Stevens Racing Team Hamburg (59) with riders Rene Birkenfeld/Yannick-Johannes Tiedt in a time of 3:50.30.8.
Numerous cycling fans lined the streets right up to the finish line on the Piazza Zenith. Wilfried Linden, Managing Director of the main sponsor Jeantex, is delighted with the great acceptance of the event: "Cycling is our profession, we live and breathe it. Personally, of course, we enjoy it ourselves. We are both passionate racing cyclists and mountain bikers."
Overall leaders of the 6th Jeantex-TOUR-Transalp and thus winners in the men's category were the team of Werner Weiss and Andreas Laner in a time of 26:21.17.9. They crossed the finish line together with second-placed Philip Götsch and Manuel Hillerbrand - in the end there was a 1.2 second gap between the two teams.
