DT Swiss is expanding its portfolio with a new lightweight wheel: the ARC 1100 Spline 38 CS wheels with carbon spokes. This is the first time that the Swiss component manufacturer has brought a wheel with carbon spokes onto the market. The aerodynamically optimised rim with a height of 38 millimetres is said to be particularly light thanks to the company's own Pure Carbon technology. The Swiss company advertises a total weight of just 1,174 grams (without tyres).
Spokes have been at the centre of product development at DT Swiss since the company was founded; forged steel spokes made the company famous worldwide decades ago. With the ARC 1100 Spline 38 CS, the manufacturer is now introducing carbon spokes to its portfolio for the first time. However, these are not manufactured in-house, but come from Asia and are sold in Europe under the name Vonoa. Many other manufacturers also use these spokes in their wheels.
The carbon fibre spokes are not only intended to save weight, but also to increase rigidity. The front wheel has just 18 spokes in a radial arrangement, while the rear wheel has 24 spokes in a 2:1 configuration with a two-cross pattern. The hubs are based on the 180 spline model, but have been specially equipped with revised flanges and a new spoke pattern for the carbon spokes. The proven Ratchet EXP system with 36 ratchet points is used inside. The wheels are tubeless-ready and are supplied with tubeless tape, valves and valve protectors already fitted.
The 38 millimetre high rim is manufactured in Switzerland using the company's own Pure Carbon technology. According to DT Swiss, this production method enables a significant weight reduction while maintaining the same stability. The rim has an inner diameter of 20 millimetres and is equipped with a hook profile for the secure mounting of tubeless tyres. As a complete system, the wheels are supplied with specially matched tyres: The Continental Aero 111 with 26 millimetres is used on the front wheel, while the classic Continental Grand Prix 5000S TR with 28 millimetres is fitted to the rear wheel. The scope of delivery also includes Continental TPU inner tubes, which can be used as a back-up.
The wheels are designed for disc brakes and have a centre lock mount as well as a maximum system weight rating of 110 kilograms. Shimano Road and SRAM XDR are available as freehub body options, with the latter included in the scope of delivery. The retail price of the set including tyres is 3199 euros.
