After dismantling the axle in the TOUR laboratory, the cause was clear: the running surface of a cone nut showed visible grooves - presumably caused by moisture and dirt that had penetrated during numerous rides in the rain and condensation in autumn and winter. As the wheelset was less than a year old, we asked Shimano's German distributor - Paul Lange in Stuttgart - whether this damage was covered by the warranty. According to Paul Lange, all warranty claims are handled exclusively by specialist dealers. Within 24 months of purchase and after a positive inspection by Paul Lange's technical customer service, the end customer will receive a free replacement of the defective part. If the damage had occurred after the deadline, the bearing damage could of course be repaired with the appropriate spare parts. We have completely replaced the axle nut unit and balls, and now the front wheel is rolling again.
again. The check for lateral run-out in the centre stand revealed a lateral play of 0.3 millimetres, which corresponds to the new condition and is a very good value. The impression of the brake track on the front and rear wheels is also positive, with only minor scoring and wear.
