The "Ventoux" wheelset was the last in the Lightweight range to be fitted with carbon fibre spokes and a finer third-generation carbon layup. The former provides greater stiffness, which is particularly beneficial for the previously somewhat laterally soft rear wheel of the mountain wheelset; the new surface improves braking behaviour noticeably, even if the properties of aluminium rims are still a long way off. The inner workings of all Lightweight rear wheels, which are all equipped with proven DT Swiss technology, are now much easier to maintain. Bearing and freehub maintenance, as well as the conversion of Shimano and Campagnolo freewheels, are effortless thanks to the plug-in design.
