Clincher wheels Aeolus 5 in individual test
New in the range of the Trek accessory brand Bontrager: the folding tyre-compatible carbon wheels Aeolus 5 D3 Clincher with a 50 millimetre high rim profile.

The biggest advantage is the excellent aero performance, on a par with the significantly more expensive Zipp 404 wheels. The stiffness values qualify the wheels for light to medium weight riders. The DT-manufactured hubs are available with rotors for Shimano/SRAM or Campagnolo sprockets. The special cork-containing brake pads supplied provide good modulation, but build up significantly less braking power than combinations with aluminium rims. Shortcoming: the relatively large deflection of the rear wheel when pedalling out of the saddle. With a narrow braking position, the 23 millimetre rim width can cause the pads to drag.

PLUS Good aerodynamics; good braking characteristics (in dry conditions)
MINUS Rear brake grinding possible
