British wheel manufacturer HUNT Wheels and German hub manufacturer QVIST have announced a partnership that brings together two companies with similar goals. Both companies emphasise precision, real-world testing and performance. As the first product of this co-operation, they present a limited edition of 40 pieces of the HUNT 40 Limitless Gravel wheelset. This combines HUNT's aerodynamically optimised rims with QVIST's innovative hubs in an exclusive dark grey colourway. According to HUNT, the wheelset offers a combination of aerodynamic efficiency, low weight and fast freewheel response.
The rims of the HUNT 40 Limitless Gravel have been specially optimised for tyres between 40 and 45 millimetres wide. HUNT claims that the wheelset achieved the second lowest drag values in its class in wind tunnel tests. Only the 3T Discus 45/40 was even faster. To maximise aerodynamic efficiency, the front and rear wheels have different profiles. The front wheel is 40 millimetres high and 36 millimetres wide, while the rear wheel is 41 millimetres high and 35 millimetres wide. The inner rim widths are 27 and 26 millimetres respectively.
The centrepiece of the wheelset are the QVIST DUO hubs. These have a patented double pawl system with three alternating pawl rings. As a result, the freewheel achieves 120 engagement points and an engagement angle of three degrees. QVIST claims that this is the fastest response of all pawl hubs on the market. The hubs are manufactured near Dresden from 7075-T6 aluminium and are anodised in a special dark grey colour. Each hub is given an individual serial number.
The HUNT x QVIST 40 Limitless Gravel wheelset is built by hand at the HUNT site in Dresden. It has elliptical Pillar Wing 20 spokes, 24 at the front and 28 at the rear. HUNT does not specify the total weight. The price for the limited edition wheelset is 1999 euros. It can be ordered immediately via the HUNT website.
According to the companies, the partnership between HUNT and QVIST was born out of shared values and technical expertise. QVIST is known for its precision hubs manufactured in Germany, while HUNT specialises in performance-oriented wheels for various applications. Tom Marchment, founder of HUNT Wheels, explained that they met at Eurobike 2022 and quickly discovered similarities. The cooperation is to be further expanded in the future.
