For less than 900 euros, you can get the lightweight 1470 gram road bike wheelset, while for the same price there is a wheelset for the wider tyres on gravel bikes that weighs in at 1330 grams.
The new Newmen Advanced A.50 high-end road bike wheelset has good aerodynamic properties thanks to its height and width and is light enough for climbing at a very fair price of just under 900 euros.
The wheels are in no way inferior to professional wheels - except for the price, according to the press release from the wheel specialists from the Oberallgäu region. According to the manufacturer, a wheelset weighs 1440 grams and the rim height is 50 millimetres. Newmen compared its wheels with others in a wind tunnel test. "In combination with modern 28-millimetre and 30-millimetre tyres, the new carbon wheels can even keep up with professional competition sets," the press release announces cheerfully, promising a comfortable ride with wide road bike tyres and correspondingly low air pressures. If you want to save another 1.5 watts at 45 km/h, you can equip your new wheelset with the internal Streem Aero Valve valves, which are included in the scope of delivery. These valves also achieve a clean look.
A rim alone does not make a wheel; at the centre is the Newmen Fade R hybrid hub, which combines straight pull and J-bend spoking. This leads to a reduction in the number of spokes, aerodynamic optimisation and also offers sufficient lateral stiffness for precise handling. Professional material is used on the inside. This means that inside the hubs, Newmen relies on the same technology that has been used by the team for three years. Intermarche-Wanty proven. With the new Newmen Advanced A.50 wheels, road bike fans can apparently give their bike a good all-round upgrade, which should be as light and fast as the material used by the pros. Only cheaper.
The aerodynamically optimised, matt carbon rim with hooks (tubeless-compatible) is suitable for tyre widths of 25 to 32 millimetres, with the best aerodynamic values being achieved with 28 and 30 millimetre wide tyres. If you want to save the last grain, you can use the Streem Aero Valves included in the scope of delivery instead of relying on conventional valves. The manufacturer also promises that the 21-hole Fade R hybrid hubs are durable, lightweight and quiet. Incidentally, the wheels are also suitable for use on e-bikes (60 Nm).
Lightweight wheels are a relief, especially on tours with a lot of elevation gain and also on fast gravel tours. The Newmen Advanced G.34 wheels, weighing just 1330 grams, should offer just that. The wide rims, which allow low air pressures and at the same time offer low rolling resistance and an extra portion of grip, ensure comfort on rough terrain. So nothing stands in the way of fast gravel races. But of course they are not only suitable for this, but are just as suitable for bikepacking tours or adventure bikes.
The carbon rims have an angled hookless design, which has been tried and tested by Newmen in the MTB sector and promises maximum impact resistance. The rim width of 25 millimetres accommodates tyres between 35 and 50 millimetres.
Comparable in terms of weight is, for example, the Cadex AR 35which weighs in at 1333 grams with a Shimano freehub. However, you have to dig deeper into your pockets for this. The new gravel wheelset also uses the Fade R hybrid hub, which has kept the Newmen MTB wheels running for years.
Like the Newmen Advanced A.50, the Advanced G.34 also uses an aerodynamically optimised, robust carbon rim with a matt surface. The gravel rim is suitable for tyres between 35 and 50 millimetres and is of course tubeless-compatible. The internal Streem Aero Valve can also be used here. Whether the reason is to save 1.5 watts at 45 km/h or to reduce the risk of valve defects caused by stones, branches or other things is up to you. At the centre of the gravel wheelset are the 21-hole Fade R hybrid hubs. Also not unimportant for some: the wheels are suitable for use on e-bikes (60 Nm).
