Furka-Competition wheels from Edco
The Furka-Competition wheels from the revived traditional Swiss brand Edco performed convincingly in the laboratory and in everyday testing over 2,000 kilometres - many of them in the rain.

The braking behaviour in the wet was particularly impressive. Thanks to a ceramic coating on the wire tyre-compatible carbon rims, the wet braking performance is better than with any other carbon wheelset we have ridden so far. One small caveat: in dry conditions, the brakes tend to stutter slightly, but this remains manageable; with Campagnolo brake pads, there was a loud squealing noise when braking hard.

One of the outstanding features of the wheels is that they fit any gear system. The so-called Multisys rotor, a marvel of CNC milling technology, accepts ten-speed cassettes from Shimano/SRAM as well as eleven-speed cassettes from Campagnolo. At 758 grams at the front and 952 grams at the rear (including rim tape), the 58 millimetre high wheels are significantly heavier than the Zipp 404, which has an identical profile height, but at 1,825 euros they are also significantly cheaper and much stiffer. The aero performance is also impressive. In the test of the time trial wheels in TOUR 5/2012-> the bikes ran out of competition and reached the level of specialists such as Enve 6.7 and HED Stinger 9, so that even time trial use would be conceivable.

ConclusionA robust and technically sophisticated wheelset with good aerodynamics and excellent everyday usability.

PLUS very good wet braking behaviour; good lateral stiffness; rotor Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo compatible; no special carbon pads required; low pad wear; extensive range of accessories

MINUS Slight brake stuttering; noise development with some pads
