After a customer reported safety-related problems with their "Mavic" wheels in 2020, the company tracked down a factory for counterfeit Mavic wheels in Asia. The engineers scrutinised the counterfeit products in their own test workshop and discovered massive safety defects. Particularly dangerous: the rims were destroyed by repeated braking. This meant that the ISO 4210 braking test was not possible. The spokes also failed to meet the usual test requirements. Mavic therefore warns against buying wheels from unsafe sources.
