The French wheel manufacturer Mavic warns of dangerous counterfeits of its wheels. They do not even fulfil simple brake tests - they are dangerous to use.

After a customer reported safety-related problems with their "Mavic" wheels in 2020, the company tracked down a factory for counterfeit Mavic wheels in Asia. The engineers scrutinised the counterfeit products in their own test workshop and discovered massive safety defects. Particularly dangerous: the rims were destroyed by repeated braking. This meant that the ISO 4210 braking test was not possible. The spokes also failed to meet the usual test requirements. Mavic therefore warns against buying wheels from unsafe sources.

How can you recognise counterfeits?

These are the hallmarks:

  • Very simple stickers
  • no Mavic logos on the hubs
  • a false Mavic logo.

If you have any doubts about the authenticity of your Mavic wheels, you can check the serial number on the following website: www.tech-mavic.com
