Enve presents the SES 4.5 Pro, a new high-performance wheelset for road cycling. Developed in collaboration with UAE Team Emirates and Tadej Pogačar, the LRS is designed to combine the aerodynamic advantages of the proven SES 4.5 with the low weight of climbing wheels, according to the manufacturer. With a total weight of 1295 grams for the wheelset including valves and rim tape, the SES 4.5 Pro is significantly lighter than its predecessor. Enve states that the new model has already claimed over 25 victories this season.

Revised rim design

To reduce weight, Enve has revised the rim design of the SES 4.5 Pro. By using carbon fibres with a higher modulus and lower weight per unit area as well as an optimised laminate structure, the weight per rim has been reduced by around 50 grams. The rim depth is 49 millimetres at the front and 55 millimetres at the rear. The inner width of the rim measures 23.5 millimetres, which according to Enve corresponds to the ETRTO recommendation for 28 millimetre tyres. At the widest point of the rim channel, under the hook, the inner width is 24.5 millimetres. This has a positive influence on rolling resistance.

For PogačaAerodynamics counts for more than just weight savings

Pogačar prioritised aerodynamic superiority over pure weight savings and relied on the leading efficiency of the SES 4.5 to deliver results. However, he and UAE Team Emirates harboured an even more ambitious vision, Enve delivers: a wheel that retains the aerodynamic benefits of the SES 4.5 while achieving the featherweight precision of elite climbing wheels.

New Innerdrive Pro hub set

At the centre of the SES 4.5 Pro is the newly developed Innerdrive Pro hub set. Enve claims to have integrated the proven freehub technology into an ultra-light hub with straight spokes. With a total weight of 281 grams for the hub set (194 grams rear, 87 grams front), the Innerdrive Pro is said to be competitive with the lightest hubs on the market. The freewheel has 40 engagement points and a smooth-running pawl spring to reduce resistance.

Ceramic bearings and aerodynamic optimisation

Enve equips the SES 4.5 Pro with newly developed Pro ceramic bearings. These are said to combine hardened stainless steel running surfaces, grade 5 ceramic balls and special seals for low resistance and high reliability. According to Enve, the aerodynamic performance of the SES 4.5 Pro is based on the proven rim shape of the previous model. The manufacturer states that this shape has been identified as the aerodynamic leader in independent tests by UAE Team Emirates.

Availability and price

The Enve SES 4.5 Pro wheels are available at a price of 4499 euros. They are manufactured entirely at Enve's production facility in Ogden, Utah, USA. The manufacturer emphasises that the SES 4.5 Pro is the second product in the Pro line in the road cycling segment, after the SES Aero Pro One-Piece handlebars.
