Zipp 404 wheels in endurance test
Endurance test performance: 3,500 km. The 404 wheels with extra-wide "Firecrest" rim profile performed well in the wind tunnel test, especially in crosswinds.

Only the wheels from HED and Zipp with significantly higher profiles were faster. You can find the wind tunnel test here -> On the road, the full carbon wheels also roll subjectively smoothly and are noticeably faster on descents than standard wheels. The braking effect with the cork pads was constant and predictable. At high speeds, however, you have to grip harder and allow for longer braking distances than with aluminium rims. The wear of the cork pads is low, after the test distance they are only half worn. The wheels are not very susceptible to wind, but still require a careful riding style at tunnel exits and other places exposed to wind. In gusty winds, the sail area is noticeable and you inevitably ride light waves. All in all, a good, if not exactly inexpensive all-rounder for competitions - fast and yet light enough for the mountains: the set weighs 1,582 grams including quick release.
