Over the course of our twelve-month test, we covered a good 8,000 kilometres with it, most of which was on gravel. The wheels are still in good shape, which is not only pleasing in view of the low weight. At 663 and 753 grams respectively, the front and rear wheels are absolute lightweights, while the lateral stiffness of 37 N/mm at the front and 35 N/mm at the rear is rather low. However, as the rider himself weighs only 68 kilos, this was not a problem. The concentricity of the aluminium rims, which are suitable for folding and tubeless tyres, is perfect after the wheels were re-centred once at the beginning. However, the endurance test was not entirely problem-free. After six months, the freewheel started to make a quiet, then increasingly loud rhythmic cracking noise. After the manufacturer's tips - putting grease between the freewheel body and the rim, greasing the contact points with the frame - failed to alleviate the problem, the rear wheel was sent in. It came back with new bearings and a new, blue anodised freehub body (the old one was green). A new, revised seat for the pawls was also fitted. The original bearings were barely worn at this point and would have been good for a few more kilometres. Since this service, which was carried out as a gesture of goodwill (Tune normally charges around 80 euros for bearing replacement), the wheels have been running smoothly again. However, the rear hub is still susceptible to noise - but this can be brought under control to some extent with the tricks mentioned above.
PLUS Very light, good value for the weight class
MINUS Freewheel problems after around 5,000 kilometres, only recommended for light riders due to low lateral stiffness
