The wheel is "only" an addition to an existing series: Campagnolo already presented the top model in the line in the summer with the "Hyperon Ultra". It is intended to stand for extremely light and high-performance wheels. In addition to the low weight, aerodynamic optimisation was also part of the specifications.
Inspired by Campagnolo's own top model, the Hyperon Ultra, the carbon wheel is intended to combine Campagnolo's expertise with good engineering work. The technical features and technological content include the rims: These are manufactured using H.U.L.C. (Handmade Ultra-Light Carbon) compression moulding technology. This should give the wheel a good ratio of carbon fibre and resin. With a height of 37 millimetres, the rims are designed for mountainous to undulating terrain, while a rim width of 21 millimetres promises good compatibility with modern tyre widths of around 28 millimetres.
Like the manufacturer's previous high-end rims, the Hyperon wheel is given a particularly elaborate finish. The "C-LUX" finish gives the Campagnolo Hyperon a very smooth surface, making painting superfluous. On the one hand, this process saves weight. It also contributes to the safest positioning of tubeless tyres. This design also promotes tightness and makes installation and assembly easier.
The difference to the much more expensive Hyperon Ultra can be found in the construction of the hubs. The Hyperon is equipped with classic steel deep groove ball bearings, while the Hyperon Ultra has ceramic bearings. In addition, the connection of the spokes to the hub flange is less complex. As a result, the Hyperon is slightly heavier than the Hyperon Ultra: according to the manufacturer, the difference in weight is 100 grams. Even if the Hyperon is no bargain at 2690 euros, the offer in the Campa portfolio looks attractive: the Hyperon Ultra costs another 1000 euros more.
