The material carbon has turned the once inconspicuous road bike fork into a design object. The TOUR test of 16 current models clarifies whether the range of positive characteristics increases with the variety of shapes. (TOUR 12/2003)

The power of fashion: A high-quality racing bike without a carbon fork is almost impossible to sell these days. On the one hand, this is understandable, as the black trend fibre promises low weight and a high technical level according to common understanding. On the other hand, there is hardly any differentiation between the various fork models; rarely does anyone know more about the properties of the black fork or select it specifically on the basis of the technical data. A good road bike fork bends backwards as little as possible when braking, does not move sideways when pedalling out of the saddle and absorbs shocks when riding over obstacles. However, just because carbon forks are black and light doesn't mean that every model is good in the literal sense of the word.

The carbon forks in this test:
Bontrager Race XXX Lite, Easton EC 90 SL and SLX, Isaac Muscle, Kinesis 6061, Oval Concepts Jet Stream, Point Carbon racing fork, Profile Design AC, Reynolds Ouzo Pro 43, Scott CR-1 Team Issue, Smolik Motivation and Motivation Pro, Storck Stiletto and Stiletto light, Time Millenium Stiff and Vernie
