When it was launched 30 years ago, the Bora was Campagnolo's first aero wheel with a carbon rim. Now the Italians are presenting a new generation and bringing the Bora WTO line up to the latest state of the art.

In addition, the rims have once again grown in width: the inner dimension of the tubeless rims is now 23 millimetres, and the rim shape is optimised for a tyre width of 28 millimetres. In terms of aerodynamics, the new wheels are said to outperform their predecessors: according to Campagnolo, air resistance is said to have been reduced by 13 per cent in a frontal airflow and by as much as 80 per cent in a crosswind of 15 degrees.

Weight has also been reduced; Campa promises that the wheels have lost up to 135 grams, depending on the model. The flagship Bora Ultra in particular benefits from this. It comes with 21 spokes, has an elaborately designed carbon hub body and revolves around ceramic bearings. The Bora WTO (without "Ultra") has 24 spokes, a milled aluminium hub body and classic steel ball bearings.

Two qualities, three rim heights

The typical Campagnolo spoke arrangement known as G3 has been retained. Three spokes are arranged in a parallel group, which should give the wheels greater stability. Unfortunately, another characteristic has also remained: The comparatively high price. The Bora WTO wheels cost 2590 euros, the premium version Bora Ultra WTO even 3690 euros. Three rim heights are available: 35, 45 and 60 millimetres.
