Hand on heart: when is cycling really fun? But when it's really roaring, the road is just wiping away under your tyres and the world around you is blurred into colourful lines in the corner of your eye. In other words: when the speedometer shows big numbers. The only alternative with a similar enjoyment factor is to drive over a beautiful Alpine pass. But you don't always have a pass on your doorstep. On the other hand, speed biking is always possible if you want to - provided you have the right shape and the right equipment.
The best for everyone
The designers are concerned about the latter. As a racing cyclist, you are in the luxurious position of actually being able to buy the fastest material in the world. Unlike in motorsport, you don't have to be a Formula 1 driver to ride Formula 1 material. Formula 1 pedalling material is not cheap, but it is affordable, at least compared to automotive technology. And so it happens that a nice side aspect of racing on two wheels is the exposure to fascinating technology.
18 wheels to the lawn
We provide material for both. We took a close look at 18 wheelsets for speed cycling, from aero wheels with a low rim profile (Corima Winium +) to the deep Zipp 808 wheels with the new Firecrest rim profile and disc wheels; from aluminium to carbon rims. An exclusive innovation in the test: Mavic's Cosmic Carbone SLR wheels with the new Exalith coating on the brake track.
