Scott has discovered during internal tests that the fork steerer tubes on some Scott Speedster gravel bikes and road bikes contain cracks and is therefore voluntarily recalling the affected bikes as a precaution. According to Scott, the recall will affect around 2000 bikes sold in Europe, Asia and South America in 2022. Scott Speedster gravel bikes and road bikes sold in the USA and Australia are not affected. According to the manufacturer, no accidents or injuries have been reported to date as a result of the possible breakage, nor have there been any reports of broken steerer tubes. Nevertheless, Scott advises in its recall that the affected bikes can no longer be ridden or sold. Customers whose bikes are affected should visit their nearest Scott dealer and receive a free replacement fork for the Speedster models, which will be fitted in the shop.
Basically, two Scott Speedster road bike models, the Speedster Gravel 50 gravel bike, the Speedster Gravel 40 EQ with mudguards and the Contessa Speedster Gravel 35 are affected by the recall. Here are the exact model designations and Scott article numbers:
If a green dot can be seen under the fork bridge on one of the Scott Speedster models listed and/or there is a hole at the transition to the head tube, then the bike is not affected by the recall.
