The Audax model from the Cologne-based brand Bombtrack fulfils several niches at once. With slim steel tubes, the frame is aimed at cyclists with a penchant for classic looks.
The model also takes up the concept of classic randonneur bikes from the 1950s. These rolled on large-volume 650B tyres - a tyre size that was only rediscovered for mountain bikes a few years ago and recently became a topic again for road bikes under the name Road Plus. Other features include mounts for three bottle cages, mudguards and pannier racks as well as a frame geometry designed for smooth straight-line stability. With mechanical disc brakes from TRP and 105 gears from Shimano, the bike is available for 2,200 euros.
