The gravel trend is spreading. Gravel adventure tours, for example, are becoming increasingly popular. The realisation is gaining ground that spectacular bike adventures do not necessarily require long-distance travel. Whether it's a spontaneous overnight tour on a summer evening, a multi-day exploration trip on holiday or a traffic-free route to the office - a well-designed gravel bike with adventure DNA masters all these scenarios with flying colours.
After Canyon unveiled the second iteration of its carbon Grizl CF model around a year ago, the Koblenz-based company is now launching the aluminium version: The completely newly developed Grizl AL is available from today.
The philosophy behind the new Grizl AL: focus on the essentials while providing all the necessary capabilities for every conceivable challenge. The result is a bike that literally invites you to explore new paths. Depending on the equipment, it mutates from a fully loaded touring bike to a sprinting vehicle for sporty after-work rides or a reliable commuter companion with mudguards and anti-theft protection.
At the heart of the new edition is a completely redesigned aluminium frame. Canyon aims to combine modern aesthetics with optimised performance. Particularly noteworthy: despite increased robustness for demanding applications, the frame weighs 120 grams less than the previous version.
However, the true strength of the new Grizl AL lies in its customisability. The mounting system enables countless configurations: from purist minimalist equipment to a fully equipped expedition machine. Whether water bottles, cargo boxes, safety systems or even a front platform ("pizza rack") - the options are endless. In changeable weather conditions, the Canyon Defend Fast Fenders offer effective splash protection, with assembly and disassembly taking just seconds.
While the standard equipment includes 45 mm tyres, the frame design allows tyres up to a width of 54 mm to be fitted - the equivalent of 2.1-inch mountain bike tyres. This flexibility gives riders the opportunity to adjust their bike precisely to a wide variety of surfaces and personal preferences.
When designing the Grizl AL, Canyon consistently relies on established industry standards and emphasises uncomplicated maintenance. The anatomically optimised aluminium handlebars minimise hand fatigue, while the 16-degree flare (angle of the handlebar ends) ensures increased steering precision on fast downhill sections. The use of a classic 1 1/8-inch headset, external cables, a round 27.2 mm seatpost and the T47 bottom bracket standard guarantees durability and uncomplicated maintenance.
If you want to fully equip your Grizl AL, you can find the right equipment directly in Canyon's online shop. The range includes coordinated luggage systems, bags and specialised adventure accessories. A particular highlight are the FidLock frame bags, which do not require any conventional strap systems thanks to their innovative magnetic fastening.
Although Canyon has given the Grizl AL numerous upgrades and extended functions, the pricing remains extremely attractive, as is typical for Canyon. With three equipment variants starting at € 1,299, the Grizl AL represents one of the most accessible entry points into the world of gravel and adventure biking.
The entry-level version comes with Shimano Cues single gears, hydraulic disc brakes and a carbon seatpost.
The mid-range version is aimed at riders who prefer the higher-quality Sram Apex 1x12 DoubleTap technology. In combination with the tubeless Schwalbe G-One RX tyres, the result is a setup that appeals to beginners as well as ambitious gravel bikers.
The top model comes out of the box completely ready for expeditions. The equipment highlights include the multifunctional full-mount cockpit and the further developed VCLS 2.0 Flex seatpost, which is known for its characteristic comfort behaviour. The Shimano RX610 GRX shifting group works together with a wide-range 10-51 cassette, which makes even steep terrain a manageable task.
The new Canyon Grizl AL is now available to order in the Canyon webshop. The selection includes various colour options and seven frame sizes from 2XS to 2XL.
