The German carbon manufacturer THM-Carbones has added the Scapula F model to its tried-and-tested, super-light Scapula forks.

Test performance: 5,000 kilometres

Behind the simple addition lies a prime example of the system integration made possible by fibre composites. The carbon fork not only guides the front wheel and absorbs shocks, but also has an integrated brake whose operating principle is similar to a V-brake. Instead of pivoting aluminium arms, flexible carbon arms are laminated directly into the fork blades. The result is a combination that weighs just 353 grams with a 225 millimetre steerer tube. By comparison, the top brakes from Shimano or Campa weigh just under 150 grams on their own, while mass-produced forks weigh 300 grams and more. The initial assembly of the tuning fork is somewhat time-consuming; you may have to try out several different brake pads until the brake no longer squeaks on carbon rims. When riding, the braking effect is impressive in every situation, as is the relatively comfortable design and the lateral stiffness, which is beyond reproach.

Lateral stiffness 54 N/mm - grade 1.0
Comfort 83 N/mm - grade 3.7

Price 1,098 Euro
