The founder of Centurion, Wolfgang Renner, is one of the pioneers of off-road sport and a successful cyclocross rider himself. Since 1976, his bikes have been particularly successful off-road. The new Crossfire also rolls over our gravel track with such genes: balanced, manoeuvrable, always easy to handle.
The full feeling of always having the bike well under control is also due to the very comfortable, sport-orientated riding position. Not forgetting the drop bar with its flattened top link, which flatters the hands but offers full control when gripped by the brake horns.
The 180 mm brake discs are easy to control when things get dicey. In general, the gears and controls fit perfectly in the hand.
This also applies to the - also brand new - Bosch Purion 400 display, which is small but well protected behind the upper handlebar and is very easy to read. The mini keypad on the left-hand side of the handlebars is used to zap through (and change the support mode) - although it is difficult for people wearing gloves to feel.
The SX from Bosch - probably THE drive for the gravel section these days anyway - also matches the Centurion's go-getter attitude. Powerful enough for longer climbs, light enough, with sufficient range and very natural response behaviour.
In addition, the gear ratio of the Crossfire is wide and sufficiently small (42 mm chainring / 52 mm sprocket). As usual, the individual gears of the drive unit can be customised thanks to the Bosch Smart System and thus adjusted to suit the rider and the terrain. The metallic green work of art in the form of a frame seems almost too good for hard use. But the stiff aluminium frame with the voluminous headset and S-shaped rear triangle can handle anything. Comfort, however, is not its strong point - the 45 mm Maxxis Rambler tyres are still responsible for this, and the flat top link also helps.
The frame and fork have plenty of eyelets - and bring the Centurion up the adventure scale. The lighting equipment on the bike also fits in well: the Supernova Mini3 with daytime running light with a full 125 lux provides plenty of brightness and good illumination. Thanks to robust, matching components, the bike is worth its 4149 euros. A real all-rounder.
Fun, great handling, suitable for adventures: The sporty, well-balanced Centurion Crossfire R2000 D with its robust aluminium frame is a well-rounded E-gravel bike full of riding pleasure, and also a good value for money purchase.
