Germany's oldest bicycle manufacturer, Diamant Fahrradwerke from Hartmannsdorf near Chemnitz, is celebrating its anniversary. The Diamant 140 - a limited-edition gravel bike to mark the company's 140th anniversary. The US giant Trek Bicycles bought the German manufacturer a few years ago (2003). However, the German plant has been producing bicycles under the Diamant, Trek and Electra brands ever since. According to Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, the latest figure is 1400 bikes a day.
The Diamant 140 gravel bike presents itself in a minimalist design. The aluminium frame is made from 100 percent renewable energy, which, according to the manufacturer, saves 20 percent of the emissions of a traditional aluminium bike. In technical terms, the gravel bike offers versatile equipment for off-road tours. This is particularly evident in the 2.4-inch thick tyres and the various mounting points that allow the installation of bottle cages, frame bags or drybags. A sturdy front pannier rack can also accommodate handlebar bags weighing up to 5 kilograms.
The Shimano GRX 12-speed rear derailleur ensures reliable shifting even in dusty, muddy or heavy conditions. The hydraulic Shimano disc brakes are also from the GRX series. A lockable Suntour NCX32 suspension fork in combination with the wide Schwalbe Nobby Nic tyres on Bontrager Kovee rims promises riding comfort and traction on changing surfaces. An original Brooks saddle is also fitted. According to the manufacturer, the complete bike weighs 14.7 kilos - no lightweight.
The Diamant 140 gravel bike is now available in a limited edition from selected specialist dealers - there is no information on how many units the model is limited to. The price for the anniversary model is 1899 euros.
To mark its 140th anniversary, Diamant is also organising a competition. The focus is on an online game in which you get on your bike virtually and have to crack a total of 140 points to secure the chance to win the main prize: a limited edition Diamant 140. The closing date for entries is 31 August 2025. diamantrad.com
