Bikepacking meets racing: Megamo presents the second generation of the West

Megamo has unveiled the second generation of its West gravel bike, which has been given a completely redesigned frame. The new model is intended to have a much stronger focus on competition use without losing its versatility. According to the manufacturer, the new model has already been used in demanding events such as The Rift in Iceland and The Traka in Girona, where Megamo says it has proven its capabilities.

The new frame is said to be significantly lighter thanks to a new carbon fibre quality than the predecessor. The Spaniards do not specify a concrete saving or frame weight, but the lightest complete bike in size M is said to weigh a respectable 8.65 kilograms. The cables are now all routed internally for a clean look. The geometry has also been changed: With more reach, the riding position is now (even) more stretched, and with an STR of 1.41, the West should be one of the sportiest cut gravel bikes on the market. A long wheelbase and slacker steering angle should offer more directional stability at high speeds on rough gravel.

Compatible with suspension forks and telescopic supports

The tyre clearance has been increased to 50 millimetres, which extends the range of use in difficult terrain. For adventurers and bike travellers, the West offers a storage compartment in the down tube, where tools and a spare tube can be stored in a waterproof bag, as well as several fastening eyelets on the frame and fork for luggage. The frame is also compatible with suspension forks and telescopic seat posts, which further increases the range of use.

Megamo West: Equipment and prices

Five equipment variants are available, all based on the same frame set. However, the one-piece carbon handlebar unit is reserved for the top versions West 01 (with SRAM Force for € 5999) and West 02 (with SRAM Rival AXS for € 5399). Both also come with the 303 XPLR aero carbon wheels from Zipp. The cheaper models have clamped aluminium handlebars and inexpensive aluminium wheels from Fulcrum.
