Thanks to Strava, legendary climbs from the Tour de France are getting a little closer: the platform has found local routes in Germany that offer similar challenges.

Alpe d'Huez, Hautacam or La Planche des Belles Filles - the route profile of the current Tour de France offers a whole range of sporting treats. If you don't just want to spend the 2022 Tour in front of the TV, you can ride climbs in Germany that present similar difficulties.

By analysing segment data (based on distance and elevation gain), Strava analysts have identified local routes in Germany that are similar to Tour stages. The famous climb to Alpe d'Huez, for example, can be found in Baden-Württemberg on the High blue The road climbs 1,046 metres in altitude over 12 kilometres. The ascent to Hautacam on the 18th stage can be seen on the Wiedener Eck The route is modelled on the Grand Ballon - 1,070 metres in altitude over 14.4 kilometres. If you want to test the efforts of the Tour de France Femmes on the Grand Ballon, you can do so on the Sudelfeld attempt (602 m/13.5 km). A section of the cul-de-sac to the La Planche des Belles Filles ski station can be reached on the Horben experience. 500 metres of elevation gain over 7.1 kilometres await strong legs.

It is clear that the climbs in Germany are no substitute for the French legends. If you prefer to compare the performance of professionals and amateurs against the French "originals", you can see the most important comparative figures on Strava:
