The Schäftlarner Berg is Germany's most ridden Strava climb and that's no surprise. It is located on the outskirts of Munich and is the only climb worth mentioning in the flat area surrounding the Bavarian capital. When the racing bike scene heads south from Munich on a holiday or at the weekend, many of them ride over the Schäftlarner Berg on both the outward and return journeys. It offers long serpentines that create the feeling of an Alpine road in just a few metres and lead uphill at a steady gradient. The climb with its tight bends is also great fun on the way down. Even in terms of sporting history, the climb is unique in Germany. The Olympic road race of the 1972 Summer Games went via Beigarten and Schäftlarn and the Bayern Rundfahrt also used the metres of altitude on the climb. Yannik Achterberg, who rode for the Maloja Pushbikers until 2021, took the KOM in the men's race. Lena Götzenburger set the best time in the women's race - she is also the 2022 German middle distance triathlon champion.
