The Thuringian Forest is known for the Rennsteig. But it runs along the heights and is not suitable for racing cyclists. Mario Kummer comes from the area. The ex-professional and former GDR state amateur knows alternatives with plenty of altitude metres. In contrast to the Thuringian Forest, the area in the north-east of Bavaria Fichtel Mountains is not exactly one of the celebrities among German racing bike regions. Wrongly so, says our author after her visit.
