The Mangfall meanders so diversely through the Alpine foothills that monks once christened it "The Manifold". If you want to follow its course between Tegernsee and Irschenberg, you'll have to climb many a steep drop.

It's hard to believe: on the Irschenberg of all places, where on holiday weekends the avalanche of traffic pushes itself over the multi-lane asphalt of the A8 motorway, you can still experience it - the magical moments of the Alpine foothills. Just a few hundred metres above the motorway, at the highest point of the lateral moraine of the ice-age Inn glacier, early risers can enjoy a magnificent 180-degree panorama: the tinkling of cowbells drowns out the distant hum of the engines, in the north the morning mist still hangs over the Mangfall and Leitzach valleys, in the south the Wendelstein welcomes the first rays of sunshine. Its rocky pinnacle, visible from afar, is the most striking peak in the Mangfallgebirge and accompanies racing cyclists on all tours through the region.
