Is it all fiction? The lying Baron von Münchhausen comes from the Weserbergland and, according to legend, a pied piper lured children to their deaths in Hamelin. The truth is: the region delights racing cyclists with its rolling hills, lonely roads and plenty of cycling flair.

Baron von Münchhausen would probably have presented his homeland, the Weserbergland, like this: gigantic peaks with a mountain panorama that is unrivalled. Devilish and endless climbs that lead almost vertically into the sky. Rushing rivers, followed by raging descents where you descend so fast that your tyres catch fire. The legendary baron of lies from Bodenwerder is notorious for his tendency to exaggerate and fabricate. So let's cancel the gigantic peaks and the devilish climbs. What remains is an excellent area for road cycling, through which the Upper Weser meanders tranquilly in many bends, and where shorter climbs over the wooded hills rarely have double-digit percentages. Nevertheless - or perhaps precisely because of this - it is a wonderful and varied place to train.
