The glaciers of the last ice age scraped across the land, forming ramparts and canals. So unique that UNESCO has recognised the Lower and Upper Spreewald as a biosphere reserve. A lonely area where not only foxes and hares, but also beavers and storks say goodnight to each other. Olaf Pollack lives on the edge of the Spreewald, in Kolkwitz. The former T-Mobile and current Wiesenhof-Felt pro is enthusiastic about the training opportunities in his home town: "You can find great routes here," he enthuses. "Many of the roads and paths are virtually car-free, so the most you'll come across is a tractor."
