Tour 1 (102 kilometres, 1,600 metres in altitude, max. 8 % gradient)
Three-country giro
Hesse, Bavaria, Thuringia - this tour takes in all three Rhön neighbours. Although the tourist highlights are somewhat lacking, from a cyclist's perspective this tour is harmonious and has little traffic. It even rolls smoothly in between. Hünfeld is a good place to stop for a bite to eat, as otherwise the catering options are few and far between.
Tour 2 (86 kilometres, 1,500 metres in altitude, max. 8 % gradient)
From the cellar to the roof
The loop over the roof of the Rhön may only be 90 kilometres long, but it gathers plenty of metres in altitude. The route constantly oscillates between the extremes, the 500 metre low Gersfeld and the more than 900 metre high Wasserkuppe. The accessible summit (signpost "Radom") is 950 metres above sea level. The view there is good, but the nicer place for a long break is in the car-free historic centre of Bischofsheim, just before the finish. But be careful: a final, tough ascent begins behind the town.
