Tour 1 (100 kilometres, 1,500 metres in altitude, max. 18 % gradient)
Mountain and river cruise
Tour from the Westerwald to the Lahn and Dill valleys. At the beginning, the Westerwald awaits, whose highest point, the Fuchskaute (657 m), we cycle around. Then it's 25 kilometres downhill on the cycle path, a former railway line, through the beautiful Ulm valley into the wide Lahn valley. From there, a small road leads to the medieval town of Braunfels with its castle. We cross the Lahn a second time - and climb briefly to the "Grube Fortuna" mine, from where the route descends steeply into the Dill valley. The route follows this upwards, then makes a detour that is very demanding: However, the steep climb to Greifenstein Castle is worth it for the view.
Tour 2 (108 kilometres, 1,700 metres in altitude, max. 12 % gradient)
Through the hinterland
A tour peppered with many climbs through the lonely, so-called Hessian hinterland. After relatively flat kilometres in the Aar valley, the numerous climbs begin behind Bischoffen. The highest point of the route, shortly after Dernbach, reaches 520 metres above sea level and is almost at its northernmost point. Later, you cycle around the cone-shaped Dünsberg (498 m), which is visible from afar, but whose three-kilometre-long ascent (at 68.6 km on the right) is in such poor condition that it is not really recommended for racing cyclists - but if you still dare, the panorama from the viewing tower is a sight to behold! And there's a rest stop on the mountain.
