Do you fancy new tours but only have two days? Discover the most beautiful routes in Germany and its neighbouring countries with TOUR. This time: Saxon Switzerland. (TOUR 7/2007)

The Elbe flows sluggishly through the wide valley south-east of Dresden. Paddle steamers ponderously shovel their way along the wide river - Mississippi flair in Saxony. The cycle path along the riverbank is easy going. The tarmac is smooth and racing cyclists whizz past families and cyclists. Cycling upstream, you overtake boats battling against the current and catch a glimpse of beautiful villas on the banks of the Elbe near Pirna. After these pleasant warm-up kilometres, the route becomes more challenging and the Elbe valley narrower. At Stadt Wehlen, the cyclist enters the heart of the region, the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The altimeter gets some work.
