Castles, palaces, lakes, beautiful descents to relax on (for example to Ranis), but also challenging climbs, especially on the way to Saalfeld. Shortly before the end, the route rolls wonderfully along the
Hohenwarte reservoir.
Tour 2 (100 kilometres, 1,500 metres in altitude, max. 17 % gradient)
Waterways
Immediately after the start, the route climbs steeply uphill to Liebschütz, from there down in gentle curves - and up again - and back down to the mill ferry. The steepest section, with a 17 per cent gradient, is before Knau - short but painful. After further ups and downs to the Plothen ponds and the Zeulenroda dam, a relaxing descent back to Ziegenrück awaits at the end.
